Access To Main & 2nd Streets During Summer Road Construction
2nd Street construction starts May 14th
Water Street construction starts May 7th
The Platteville Main Street Program® has been working with the City and Tud Bowden to provide the sign boards for traffic directional signs to access Main Street during construction. It will be a difficult summer, but we will do everything possible to keep people informed that access to Main is open.
Dan Dreessens of Delta 3 Engineering came up with a map for Second Street. The “detour” is for those coming up Mineral St. They will be directed to go north on Oak to Furnace, over to Third Street and back down. Anyone attempting to continue up Second Street will need to turn at Main Street and use either Oak or Third to reach Furnace. Pedestrian access will be maintained to those businesses that do not have alternate entrances. People can enter the Red & Deb parking lot from Third and go out onto Mineral between Red & Deb’s and Milio’s.
Much of the time, the Main Street intersection will be open to cross traffic. Only when they are actually working in the intersection will there be closure. Grant Fisher, a UW-Platteville transportation student, created a map with local detours when the Main Street intersection is closed. Signs will also be placed in the marked locations to help direct traffic.

Homeowners will be able to access the streets under construction from the closest cross street based on where the construction is at the time.
