Welcome
Located in the driftless area of
Southwestern Wisconsin, Platteville is blessed with beautiful architecture
in its Main Street area. The National Trust designated the entire downtown
as a Historic District for Historic Preservation in 1990. In addition
to its unique architecture, downtown Platteville has an interesting combination
of retail shops and services available to meet the needs of community
members and visitors. Platteville boasts shops dealing in antiques and
collectibles, gift and specialty items, music, sporting goods, office
supplies and stationery, shoes, bridal and formal attire, jewelry, flowers
and plants, clothing, furniture, hardware and building supplies.
Service
is an important part of the downtown as evidenced by the number of establishments
meeting needs in the areas of hair and nail care; signage; appliance,
auto body and motor repair; insurance; alterations; cleaning; printing;
photography; travel; employment; accounting; legal services and banking.
Entertainment abounds in the downtown area. Several restaurants offer
a wide variety of foods and beverages; area taverns and pubs vary from
quiet to lively; and the triplex movie theatre, museum, art gallery, and
outdoor concerts in the City Park gazebo during the summer months provide
rich cultural experiences.
Come take advantage of all there is to see and do in downtown Platteville.
